There are different types of lip balm that differ in ingredients (including the main ones), therefore in composition, density and hardness, but also in the containers in which they are distributed. The term “lip balm” is technically more correct than lip balm: in fact, products based on cocoa butter (from which the term “lip balm” derives) are only a part of the great variety of products aimed at protecting the lips. There are basically three types: herbal (natural, organic), industrial and pharmaceutical.
Lip balms can be made with a wide variety of ingredients as long as they tend to take a pasty or solid form at room temperature and have high nourishing and moisturizing properties. The most used ingredients are usually butters or vegetable oils, linked to thickening pastes. For example, cocoa butter and beeswax are often the main ingredients of the product.
